  • Workplace New Year’s Resolutions

With the New Year fast approaching, it’s time to set new goals for 2022. Usually, we focus on what we can do in our personal life, but why not set some work resolutions? From organization, to finding a work-life balance, here are a couple of great resolutions you should consider making this new year! Goal Setting Many times, we work with our managers to set yearly, quarterly or monthly goals. These are great to keep us on track and work towards growing in our job, company and career. Goals add structure to your days and weeks. Take the time to set daily or weekly goals for yourself to not only get you to meet your bigger goals, but keep you on track with your work. Get Organized There is nothing worse than sitting down at your desk and staring at piles of old papers, yesterday’s coffee, and just unneeded clutter. The new year is a great time to start fresh. Clean your desk, make a new organizational plan for your email or files. Do something that will help you be more productive in the new year. Don’t be afraid to clean out that bottom desk drawer you’ve been dreading, it will only make you feel better and ready to conquer your week! Learn Something New – Invest in Yourself One of the best ways to grow as a person and a professional is learning something new that will help move you forward in your career. Is there an area you want to improve in? Or maybe something brand new you think will benefit you in your job and your company? There are endless virtual options – webinars, virtual courses, even blogs! You can also look into local networking and professional groups that host events. This is a great way to learn new things, network within your industry and continue to grow. Creating Healthy Habits – Time Blocking When working from home, the line between the workday and personal time gets blurred. It’s easy to forget to take time for yourself and lose some of the healthy habits you usually have, especially if you get busy. Time blocking is a way you can take some time for yourself during the busy workday by simply marking it off on your calendar. Take a 15-minute midday walk or block off time for a real lunch break. Don’t forget to take care of yourself in the new year! New Years resolutions are a fun way to work on improving yourself in every facet of life, so don’t forget about work! Find ways unique to you that help you stay motivated and feeling great. PeopleShare wishes you and your loved ones a Happy New Year!

  • Virtual Holiday Ideas

The holiday season is a time for family, friends and of course co-workers! Finding creative ways to keep your team engaged in our virtual world and over the holidays can be tough. Holiday parties, events and activities don’t have to be a thing of the past. Through a bit of creativity, the holiday festivities will thrive! Here are some ways you can bring the holidays to life with your team: 1. Secret Santa This classic holiday tradition can easily be implemented with your team. If anything, it’s even easier! Randomly assign (or try drawnames.com) each member of your team a person and provide them with the shipping address as well as wish list or get creative with a theme. Each employee will send their gifts to the person they’re assigned. Pick a morning meeting to go through and open each gift, just as you would in person! 2. Virtual Cocktail / Cooking Class A cocktail or cooking class is a fun and interesting twist on the holiday party, that can easily be done virtually. There are many companies that will ship each team member supplies and lead the class through the recipe. This can also be achieved without a company. Have someone choose a recipe and lead the team through it one night. 3. Cookie Decorating Contest Competitions are always fun, and an edible one? Even better! Provide everyone with a cookie decorating kit, a recipe, or ingredients list. Whether you decorate on a team call or come to a meeting with the presentation of your cookie – each person can show off their creativity before voting begins! There can be a prize, but sometimes bragging rights are enough motivation. 4. Virtual Movie Night Nothing puts you in the holiday spirit like a movie night fully stocked with hot chocolate and popcorn! Choose a movie, provide each team member with a hot cocoa kit, popcorn, and any other classic movie snacks. Pick a night when you all will watch the movie and talk about it in your next team meeting! We may not be able to celebrate in person, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get into the holiday spirit, in and out of work! When working virtually, it’s important to do whatever you can to keep your team engaged and these holiday ideas might just be the way to do it!

  • Retaining & Motivating Your Employees

The Great Resignation is making headlines recently, employee turnover is at an all-time high since the start of the pandemic. This means employers need to work harder to maintain and keep their employees. In the past, an increase in salary has been the main way to keep employees, but that isn’t always a possibility. There are other important ways to help retain employees beyond salary. Most people do not want to leave a company or job that they love. They will sacrifice a higher salary for other employee benefits. Flexible work schedules, advancement opportunities, and professional development are a few ways employers show employees that they care and want the best for them. Flexible Work Schedule The pandemic introduced a new kind of work day, one that takes place in the comfort of your own home. In today’s new reality, people are looking for better a work/life balance. The 9-to-5 work schedule and 5 days a week in office is no longer the standard, nor is it desired by employees. By adopting a hybrid work structure and flexible hours, employees now have more control over their schedule and can keep a consistent work/life balance. Professional Development A high percentage of employers report that it is difficult to find employees with a specific skill set, so employers look internally and are upskilling your current motivated employees. Employees who are interested in additional learning opportunities are employees that you want to keep. They are engaged, want to solve problems on their own and want to work to better the future of the company. It is important to invest in your employees. Start by investing in digital learning that highlights employees current skill set. Get them involved by asking them to find webinars and courses they would enjoy attending to further develop their skills. Look Internally I’m sure you have heard the expression “People leave mangers, not companies.” Management affects employee engagement and how likely they are to stay with the company. It’s important to be proactive and regularly check in with your employees. Learn how they like to be managed and ways their manager can communicate with them more effectively. Collecting this feedback, either one on one or through an anonymous survey, allows you to make the necessary changes to retain employees. Make the changes (if possible) to show your employees you care. Create Advancement Opportunities If an employee feels stagnant in their current role, they are going to look for a new place where they can grow. Whether into a management position or wanting to master their skills, it’s important to provide employees with advancement opportunities. Create a path that is individualized for employees, one that creates opportunities for promotion within their current role. Talk with them regularly to see where they see themselves in a year and learn what you can do to help them advance towards their goals. PeopleShare recruiters are trained to find those employees who are interested in a long-term job opportunity. Our process is built to find our clients the best employees who are looking to make a difference in their new roles. When you work with PeopleShare, you know that we are working diligently to get you the perfect person for the job.

  • Record Turnout at Xpert Cafe 2019

It’s the day that PeopleShare clients look forward to every year- a day of networking, inspiration and fun- Xpert Café. The exclusive, annual event was created eleven years ago and had only fifty people in attendance in 2008, and has grown to more than 700 guests this year with a superstar speaker- journalist and activist Robin Roberts. Guests arrived early and packed three ballrooms, eagerly awaiting Robin’s speech. When she emerged from the side door to a standing ovation, someone snapped a selfie with her- which Robin graciously stopped and smiled for on her way to the stage. CEO and co-founder Dave Donald remarked at the success of the event, saying, "We are blown away by the clients that came out for Xpert Cafe 2019. We are continually humbled by the event growing year over year and the positive feedback from clients. We aim to provide the ultimate networking opportunity and an educational presentation each year, and show our clients that we are true partners in their staffing solutions." In her speech, “Positioning Yourself for Success”, Robin spoke on life, work and her health obstacles, including two crippling diagnoses of breast cancer and MDS. She shared stories of her childhood in Mississippi, anecdotes of her upbringing with her sisters and parents, and inspiration on how to make the most out of whatever life throws at you. “Dream big,” she said, “But focus small.” Was one of her pieces of advice, along with, “Always make your mess your message,” noting that even the worst of situations can be turned into a personal growth opportunity. At the end of her speech, Robin took questions from the audience, answering queries about equal pay, self-care and how our companies can care for employees during their own health struggles. After the presentation, guests enjoyed refreshments and some also got to meet Robin, speak with her and take a photo with her. Guest Monica Murphy commented, "What an incredible talk. So many words of wisdom and inspiration to consider as an HR professional, individual and mother. My favorite takeaways were, "Dream big, focus small," "change the way you think to change the way you feel," and "know your worth."
